Why we picked it

Cord is cord until you need the inside of it. There are seven inner strands here and two of them earn the price: fishing line, and a waterproof tinder strand that still lights after a soaking. The other reason it made the cut is more mundane — it's soft enough to knot properly. Cheap 550 cord goes stiff and fights you at exactly the moment you're trying to rig a ridgeline in wind. One hard limit, stated plainly: this is utility cord. It is not rated for climbing or for any load with a person on the end of it.
